Band / Artist

Sharla June sings and performs original music, as well as an eclectic mix of old-time, country, blues, jazz, roots, pop and old punk-rock on guitar, banjo and ukulele. Originally from Tallahassee, she began performing with Sidewalk Stages last summer. A seasoned performer, she has played music festivals (including Riverhawk, Florida Folk Festival, Gamble Rogers, Southern Music Rising, etc) playing, singing, and touring in a number of bands and opening for such diverse acts as Ralph Stanley, Donna the Buffalo, and Husker Du.

Her experience in the recording studio is extensive, putting out albums both as a solo artist and in collaboration with bandmates, and working as a back-up singer and harmonist for dozens of other artists.

While Sharla is currently playing solo, due to the constrictions of raising a young child, she's always most excited about cooperative work. One of Sharla's solo sets might consist of original tunes interspersed with covers by Memphis Minnie, Patsy Cline, Tom Petty, The Ramones, The Staples Singers, John Prine, Bessie Smith, a number of traditional songs, Jimmie Rodgers, Bob Wills, and the Velvet Underground.

Oh, and she is a Music Together teacher and can perform entire sets of children's music.
