Joseph

Joseph started playing tenor banjo as a Mummer. The band performed for President Johnson, played for Whistle Stops, and marching parades. In 1967, Joseph moved to Mumbai, India with his family and graduated American Embassy School in New Delhi. Joseph took three years of folk style sitar. While in India Joseph got to meet Ravi Shankar and George Harrison. Joseph attended MTSU and quickly became involved with folk music, environmental education, and the fretted mountian dulcimer.

Joseph has won first place in several dulcimer and folk music festivals which led to him being one of the first teaching artists in Middle Tennessee and Chattanooga. Joseph can perform solo or with others and has presented many programs featuring East Indian and local folk musicians. Recently, Joseph has been studying Native American Flute and is in an experimental fusion band called Orgainized Kaos.
