Charlie the Head

Charlie the Head is a progressive jazz group delivering a fusion of old standards, original music, and modern funk. This 3-piece combo blazes through bop and forays into funk while interweaving a strong sense of self with well-crafted original compositions.

Todd Garland, drummer and the brains behind CTH, studied music at the University of South Carolina, afterwards traveling and performing in Chicago and Atlanta before relocating to Chattanooga and forming his own group.

Resident guitar wizard and Chattanooga native Stephen Powers graduated from the University of New Orleans with a degree in jazz studies. After years in Nashville he has returned to his home town where he has been staying busy both as a private music instructor and as a performing artist.

Completing the low end of the sound spectrum is bassist Ryan Crabtree. Also originally from Chattanooga, Ryan earned his Bachelor of Music Education from UTC and stays busy with a multitude of projects.
