Band / Artist

Megan Saunders’ music has been described as “…evocative enough to enchant and warm and soft enough to cling to like a faded quilt fresh off a windblown line…” (Tom Miller, concert programmer). Known for songs that build a sense of story and place, her sound ranges from playful, luminous to haunting. Often compared to Emmy Lou Harris and Kate Wolf, she uses tenor guitar, banjo and nimble vocals to create a space that “…evokes a soft summer breeze through a field, and a visit to the pub the same night…“ (Scott Frank, VT Arts Blog). Originally from Vermont, she now lives in Tennessee, and has released two albums, The Driftless (2012) and Long For The Dory (2014), as well as singles and albums in collaboration with artists from the US, Canada and beyond. She enjoys playing in a variety of spaces from listening rooms, rowdy bars, festivals (Kate Wolf Festival, Nightfall) to concert venues (Golden State Theater, Freight and Salvage) and has opened for artists such as Peter Rowan and Midlake. Saunders has won several national awards for singing and composing, including the Song of the Year award for songwriting, and sits on the board of the Chattanooga Songwriter’s Association.
